Practice makes perfect. To become a great player requires time and commitment, which includes thousands of hours of practicing and years of learning. It will take you far too long to reach your goals without practice and in some instances, you may never achieve any of your musical goals.

Aside from working with a guitar teacher, you need to know what steps you need to take on your own to become the player you want to be. This includes practice, commitment, patience, etc. Once you start learning these things, you learn about yourself and then you can start applying them to your playing.

Be honest with yourself. Don’t tell yourself that you are going to put in the time, effort, and money if you know deep down you won’t. Decide to invest in yourself and commit to yourself and then actually do it! Stay focused and don’t lie to yourself.

Do not procrastinate! Procrastination is the worst to your moving forward to get the results you want. When you tell yourself, you will do it tomorrow, chances are tomorrow, turns into next week, which turns into next month, which turns into never. Fear is just disguised as procrastination, so get over your fear already and do it!
