Take Guitar Lessons in Philly
How to tune a guitar
So you’ve bought your first guitar and you started taking guitar lessons in Philadelphia. Pretty soon you will be the rock and roll God you dreamed about becoming. Before you get into all that stardom, you need to learn how to take care of your guitar. One of those tasks is learning how to tune it so that you can actually sound great.
It’s pretty easy to tune a guitar. Luckily in the digital age we live in, there are all kinds of fancy electronic tuners on the market that can have your guitar tuned in minutes. However, you can’t always rely on technology and at some point, you will have to tune your guitar manually.
The first step in tuning a guitar is learning the names of the strings. Obviously, if you are taking those guitar lessons, then you already know. But in case you don’t know, here they are:
E = 6th string
A = 5th string
D = 4th string
G = 3rd string
B = 2nd string
E = 1st string
Now its time to start tuning. You will need to get one string in tune so that you can tune the other ones to that. The easiest string to start with is the low E string or the 6th string. You can use an electronic tuner or something called a pitch pipe. It will take time to get tuning right, at least until your ear develops a bit.
Now that the E has been sorted, you move on to the A string. Play the fifth of the E string and then play the open A string. The two notes should be perfectly in tune. If they aren’t you’ll have to alter the pitch of the A string to the fifth fret of the E string. Once the A string is in tune, go on to the D string, working your way to the rest of the strings. Go back over the strings to check if they are still in tune.
Once you’ve ensured that the strings haven’t slipped out of tune, continue on. Now you know how to tune your guitar! Mastering the art of tuning will not come quickly but practice will help. You need to learn to master the most basic of guitar skills in order to become a better guitar player.
Learning how to play the guitar is a fun and exciting way to express yourself artistically. Taking guitar lessons in Philadelphia will teach you more than just how to play.
