Why Learn Guitar From A Guitar Teacher?
What is your musical inspiration? Who are your musical heros? What do you want to accomplish with your guitar playing? What are your musical goals and do you have the ability to reach them?
Learning to play an instrument is a lifelong passion. Those who know the value of music understand it takes years to master, and learning the guitar is no different. There are many approaches one can take to study guitar. Being one of the humanities, the study of music has probably seen it all. Many of our favorite contemporary musicians have learned to play Rock guitar to some extent while playing in a band on their way to fame; perhaps some of them may have even been figuring out some basic things after they were signed to a major label. Does this in any way make their music less valuable? No, not at all! The real value of music is its ability to communicate and everyone is their own judge of the music that moves them. However, many of the greats who learned “guitar on the fly” spent many, many hours doing so over the years. Fame and fortune may not be your goal, but if you want to make the fastest and most stable gains in your playing, learning from a qualified guitar instructor will be a worthwhile endeavor!
Why study guitar from a guitar teacher?
We live in the fastest age of information exchange on the history of the planet. There is great value to learning anything worthwhile from the internet and there are many excellent sites and guitar teachers providing fantastic guitar instruction. While one can learn many things about playing guitar from a computer, the live interaction which exists between two individuals in musical lessons is priceless and you will have it for your entire life. Learning to play an instrument, learning to play guitar is an exchange between individuals. It’s a pedagogy, a teaching, an interaction towards greater understanding.
The structure of well worked out guitar lessons with excellent materials can expedite the learning process. Look, at least the information provided by a competent instructor who is also a strong player will be correct! Nonetheless you will still have to burn the midnight lamp with your practicing in order to improve; it won’t happen by itself.
Over the years I’ve instructed over a thousand students, many of them taking guitar lessons in Philadelphia. Each and every person has had their own personal and musical strengths, abilities, influences, dreams and goals. I’ve watched all those who have stuck it out, persevered and really learned through methodical study and practice become more able, creative and certain in their abilities.
