Guitar Practice with a Guitar Teacher in Philadelphia
Guitar Practice: Why it is so important to your guitar learning
Practicing the guitar is something we all have to do if we want to exceed in this realm. Even the most accomplished guitarists have to practice. You don’t achieve greatness any other way. Like most activities we do, music has many nuances and many “parts” to figure out before we can achieve those goals we set for ourselves. Deciding to take Philadelphia guitar lessons is a step in the right direction to getting the most out of your guitar learning (and practicing).
If someone is telling you that there is a shortcut to avoid guitar practice, don’t listen. Practicing is simply the preparatory steps required for the performance of music. Practice can also prepare you for improvisation, which is a very rewarding part of guitar playing. Think of it as spontaneous musical creation. Who wants to get on stage and jam with someone? You can’t do that unless you practice it!
Practicing and performing are two very different things so if you have the opportunity to get on stage and perform, don’t use it as your excuse to avoid practicing. The two are very different. You are focusing more on detail and technique when you practice such as practicing a scale to get the right notes in the right order. When you perform, the focus is on what’s happening at that very moment and you aren’t trying to control everything. The performance is a natural flow with less thinking and more instincts. That only happens by practicing!
Taking guitar lessons is a way to help with your practicing believe it or not. You can’t just go in and take lessons and think you don’t have to go home and practice what you just learned. The opposite is true. In a way, you are being held accountable for what you are learning with a teacher so the pressure is on to go home, practice, practice some more and go back to your teacher with the knowledge and understanding of what you learned. Without practice, you won’t excel in your lessons and at that point, taking lessons becomes a moot point.
When you practice you begin to attain goals. You start to understand what kind of music you like playing and why. You can then decide which direction you want to go, musically, and bring this back to your teacher who can design lesson plans around your goals. The musical material that you practice is different than anyone else’s and that is what makes you unique.
Guitar practice is very personal and depends on the level, taste and general direction of each player. No one knows exactly what you should practice to achieve your specific goal than you and your teacher! Since there is an enormous amount of information of guitar playing out there, you need to judge for yourself what you want to be learning. Your teacher can help you get there. If you are serious about guitar playing, find the right Philadelphia guitar lessons and then get practicing!
