Reasons Why To Take Guitar Lessons

Published on: July 31, 2019 | Author: Philadelphia Guitar Lessons Team

8 Reasons You’ll Never Regret Taking Adult Music Lessons

Many people take adult guitar lessons in Philadelphia because they are retired and have more time on their hands. That’s a great reason, but you don’t need all the time in the world to invest in something that is just good for you. Here are some great reasons to take guitar lessons as an adult.

It will make you younger

Learning music is so good for your brain at any age, but for adults, it can mean improvements in working memory, resilience to age-related hearing loss, and lower levels of stress and depression. Kids’ brains may be sponges that make learning new things easy but adult students are better at processing complex concepts.

Playing guitar is fun

If it ever stops being fun, you can stop. And there is nothing wrong with that!

You can play what you want when you want

It doesn’t just have to be guitar, but we highly recommend it! Your goals are yours and yours alone. Just make sure you enjoy it.

It helps to be retired but it isn’t required

Retirees or empty nesters may find themselves with plenty of extra time for guitar lessons. But even those adults swamped with children and/or work can probably carve out 10-20 minutes a day to practice. The key to making time? You have to really want it.

You can de-stress

We can be hard on ourselves. When you can’t immediately learn that guitar riff like your teacher, it’s easy to beat yourself up and lose perspective. Remember that learning a new skill is hard and time-consuming. But the more you practice and sharpen those skills, the more fun you’ll have playing.

You won’t get in trouble if you don’t practice

Adults tend to be more honest with their teacher whether or not they practice or have an interest in a certain song or genre of music. Practice is necessary so don’t abuse your honesty.

You can make new friends

Group music lessons are a great way to meet like-minded newbies. But even private lessons can open doors to new friendships with teachers or other students you meet at the studio.

You’ll set a good example for the younger ones in your life

It’s healthy for kids to see their parents or grandparents taking on new challenges and working toward a goal. They’ll witness that skills don’t come easy, they require consistency and practice.

There are many rewards associated with learning to play the guitar and if you are an adult who is just beginning the process, make sure you take guitar lessons in Philadelphia so that you are starting out the right way. It can easy to get frustrated by the process and those frustrations can be worse if you are trying to learn on your own.
