If you’re serious about learning guitar, get serious about guitar lessons in Philadelphia

If one of your upcoming New Year’s resolutions in to be better musically inclined, now is the time to start doing your research on exactly what that entails. If you don’t necessarily have the natural ability of a smooth sounding singing voice, then maybe picking up a musical instrument is on your mind. One of the best instruments to learn for beginners is the guitar. And the best way to learn guitar is to find great guitar lessons in Philadelphia.

Great, you figured out what musical instrument you are going to pick up in the New Year, but how do you get started? Before you even consider what guitar to buy, you need to consider what instructor is going to teach you. And this can be a daunting task if you aren’t sure where to look.

These steps will help you begin your search and hopefully end up with the right guitar teacher for you:

Referrals

The best way to find a good guitar teacher is to ask around. Ask your friends, family and coworkers. Mention your desire to learn to your doctor or hairdresser. Chances are, someone knows someone that they can refer to you. Once you have a couple recommendations, do your research and learn what you can about them.

Advertisements

Many guitar centers will advertise whether through television, print ads or online advertising. This doesn’t necessarily mean the teacher is up to par but if they are putting themselves out there, they are definitely worth the look. Put them on your list and you can narrow them down later.

Interviews

If you have a couple of guitar teachers in mind, or even found them off of Google, make sure you interview them in addition to learning about their background and experience. There is no cost to calling a potential teacher or asking to meet with them and learn what their teaching styles are. It also helps to figure out if your personalities mesh. If they don’t, chances are you are going to struggle learning and will have a hard time focusing on the task at hand.

Jamming

If you have a guitar and a somewhat understanding of it ask a potential teacher if you can have a jam session. Learning their playing style may help you understand their teaching style and this will help you make a more informed decision when deciding if they are the right teacher for you. If you don’t have a guitar and no understanding of the instrument yet, ask a potential teacher if you can at least watch them jam with a student of theirs. You will gain a better understanding of their teaching style.

All of these steps are meant to help you find the right guitar teacher for you. You want someone who understands your level of learning and your goals. If you are looking for professional guitar lessons in Philadelphia, the David Joel Guitar Studio can help.
