Relearn the Guitar!

Philadelphia Guitar Lessons with teacher David Joel

Taking guitar lessons isn’t just for beginners. It is also for everyone who wants to advance his or her craft and reach a further understanding of the instrument. Maybe you once knew how to play. And then life got in the way. Marriage, career, kids. The guitar just seemed like something you would never do again. But then you think, “I really enjoyed playing, why did I stop? I want to try again.” So you shall.

If you haven’t played guitar in a year or more, you will most likely have to retrain yourself again after putting the guitar down for such a long amount of time. A lot of what you learned will mostly likely be forgotten, especially if you weren’t an avid player before.

There is an old saying that learning to ride a bicycle is something you never forget once you learn it.
This isn’t quite true for guitar playing. If you put down the guitar for any extended period of time, you will have forgotten a lot of what it takes to play. You will mostly likely remember a few chords and where notes are but you may not remember much else. On top of that you’ll lose your chops (the technical skill of a musician)! Why does this happen to us when we stop playing for long periods of time? Because there is a lot to remember. Many notes, chords and even playing styles require practice to keep the fingers nimble and the memory sharp.

However, one can always relearn the guitar.
Your fingers will be stiff and you will have forgotten much of what you learned previously, but you can learn again. Once you start the process, the actions will trigger memories and things will come back to you. It will take time to get your fingers working like they should. This will happen regardless of age. This will happen because you haven’t practiced or played in a while.

The best way to relearn guitar is to take lessons.
Find a guitar teacher who is sympathetic to your predicament and who is patient and knows that although you played before, you are rusty and it will take a minute to get back to where you were. But once you get there, then you only continue to go up from there.

If you are in the Philadelphia area, reach out and talk to  David Joel about your goals and what you want to achieve. He has an understanding and technique for beginners and advanced players and all those in between. He knows people are different and their learning capacities are unique to them. This is what allows him the ability to teach. He knows this about each person he teaches. If you want to relearn guitar, David Joel is the key to your ultimate success in music. Once you regain the information of what you once knew, you can continue from there and advance your craft. Whether you want to get serious about playing the guitar as a career or want to relearn it for fun, you can relearn to play.
