We’ve done articles about why you should learn to play the guitar and the many benefits it has on your body and mind. But, why do you want to learn to play? Maybe you are looking for a new hobby and the guitar just popped up in your mind. Maybe you want to be a rock god some day. Whatever your reason, you should start by taking guitar lessons.

To get your ideas flowing and maybe even help you uncover some reasons that may be buried in your subconscious, here are some answers to that burning question: Why do you want to learn to play the guitar?

To express myself

Many artists are busting at the seams to find an outlet that lets them express themselves. Some paint, some write, others make music. If you are yearning for a creative outlet, the guitar is a great place to start.

To relax or relieve stress

We all want to find a way to unwind after a long day or when we are stressed by something happening in our life. Learning an instrument, like the guitar, is a great stress reliever. Sitting down with the guitar, learning a few chords or jamming out to a cool new riff melts the stress away. We finish feeling accomplished and proud and that stress just seems to disappear.

I just like guitars/music

What better reason can there be? If you have always admired the guitar or even a particular guitar solo, why not learn how to play that bad boy? You are never too old (or young) to learn and there are many ways to learn.

To get girls/guys/friends/be popular

Everyone wants to be cool. Learning to play the guitar will definitely make you cool. It’s also a great outlet to get you active and allows you to socialize with like-minded people. Whether you join a group of fellow guitarists, join a band and interact with people who love music, learning the guitar will get you out there.

I want to be famous

Who doesn’t? If you learn to play guitar and are truly gifted, go for it. It’s a goal and it’s a goal worth having for anyone.

So why do you play guitar? Are you looking to be the next rock god or just looking for an outlet to let off steam? Whatever your reasoning is, just start learning! Life is too short for procrastination so get out there and learn to play the guitar! If you are in the Philadelphia area, take guitar lessons with David Joel at the David Joel Guitar Studio.
