Begin Guitar in Philadelphia
Common pitfalls to avoid when beginning guitar
When you are beginning your guitar lessons in Philadelphia, you may feel overwhelmed or even discouraged in the beginning. Whenever you embark on something new, no matter what it is, you will always feel this way. The difference between persevering and quitting is your desire for the new thing you are trying. If you have decided to pick up the guitar, there is a reason for it. You are interested and have developed a passion for it. So persevere on and don’t give up.
While you are in the beginning stages of guitar lessons, there are some pitfalls you should avoid. By overcoming these pitfalls, you are well on your way to becoming the guitar player you always wanted to be.
Be careful who you listen to
Don’t listen to the advice of the unqualified. Whether this is a close friend or relative who tells you that you are wasting your time or listening to someone who has no skill or qualifications to be giving guitar advice, find qualified and like-minded individuals you can bounce your passion off of. Finding trained and experienced teachers are the step in the right direction. Any advice thereafter from others who have no qualifications should be solicited as good intentions but not taken seriously. Only you and your teacher can know what is right for you and your journey to learning the guitar.
Be careful what you believe
This goes hand in hand with being careful who you listen to. Keep in mind that while some may think they have all the answers, most don’t. This is especially true of what you read or see on the Internet when it comes to guitar. Not everyone on the Internet has your best interest in mind nor do they even know you. If they don’t know you and your guitar habits and playing, how can they possibly have the answers you need? Be careful who you believe.
Don’t doubt yourself
Don’t drown yourself in self-consciousness and doubt. All this does is leave you feeling vulnerable and unsure about your capabilities. If you aren’t sure about something you are learning or doing, that is where your teacher comes into play. They are there to teach you and critique you but they are there to lift you and keep you going when you don’t think you can do it. We all face fear and we all doubt ourselves. If you allow that to overcome you, however, you won’t get very far in anything in life.
Make a commitment
Dedicated as much time as you can to playing and practicing, especially in the beginning. You made this commitment to learning so stick to it. That means hours of trial and error, hours of practice and hours of listening to your teacher tell you to do it over and over and over again. Who else are you going to learn?
If you learn to avoid these pitfalls early on, you will have much better success when you take guitar lessons in Philadelphia.
